MTS Wins Project of the Year at 2020 PMI-NAC Awards

At the Project Management Institute (PMI)® North Alabama Chapter’s 2020 Awards Ceremony, held on April 16, 2021 at the Jackson Center in Huntsville, MTS was recognized as Project of the Year for our team’s work on the Space Launch System (SLS) Core Stage Assembly Project and, specifically, our contributions to the Schedule Risk Analysis. Together with the NASA civil servant workforce and other team members, MTS personnel working at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) and led by Keith Heitzman of MTS are key members of the SLS team. Our employees play roles in scheduling, EVM, budget analysis, risk management, and project coordination and also serve as Subject Matter Experts. The current schedule contains over 150,000 lines and incorporates several of the largest aerospace prime contractors in the United States. We’re thrilled to be part of the team ensuring timely delivery of SLS hardware to Kennedy Space Center for stacking, enabling the Artemis I and subsequent missions returning our astronauts to the moon. Mr. Heitzman, Project Management Professional (PMP)®, was also nominated as Project Manager of the Year for his leadership of this team.

Also nominated for Project of the Year was another exceptional project, the NASA SERVIR Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Handbook. SERVIR is a joint NASA/U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) project to improve environmental decision-making using Earth observations and geospatial technologies. With the SAR Handbook, SERVIR collaborated with SilvaCarbon, a U.S. government program involved in enhancing the capacity of partner governments internationally to measure, monitor and manage forest and terrestrial carbon. Managed out of MSFC and coordinated by Paula Link of MTS, this project involved a complex network of stakeholders across the globe working together to enhance international capacity in the use of SAR.

We were excited for the opportunity celebrate the work of both teams and of the Project Management community in North Alabama. MTS is a PMI Authorized Training Partner (ATP)®, offering PMI-approved courses in Scheduling, EVM, Project Management and more.
